I am in each core subject area (Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Math) as well as my paraprofessional Mrs. Rogenski.  I meet with the team each day and I modify any and all work prior to class with a few exceptions depending on the day.  We are in the classroom to assist students, organize, reteach, and clarify as needed.  There will be many times during the school year where I will pull students out of the classroom to work in my classroom in a small group.  This will be especially true in Math and Language Arts.  This way I can get to the basics of a lesson and give more time for processing and practice.

I will send home a daily email each day at the beginning of school.  There will be a few days that you won’t get one…especially if I am at a meeting at the end of the day or if I am absent for some reason.  Otherwise you can expect one each day that will explain homework or expectations from the day to work on at home.  You can always email me with questions or concerns and you can always give me a call at home (232-1078).  The best way to get a hold of me is by email…I usually respond quicker than I can with a phone call unless it is a conversation that needs to be had.  Please don’t leave a message on my voice mail at school.  I do not check it often as I do not have a phone in my classroom and I am rarely in the team office.

Resource class is either the first encore or last (third) for your child.  Resource is a time where I work on specific IEP goals and objectives.  I also re-teach concepts and prepare for tests or quizzes.  This is also a time for organization and for homework issues.  Resource is a small group where there are 5-6 students, myself and my paraprofessional.  Mrs. Anderson, the Speech/Language Pathologist, also comes into my class several times a week to work on speech and language goals, problem solving, social skills and other objectives.

There will also be times when I take students to Kroger’s to shop or to local restaurants to work on life skills such as money and other various skills.  I also will often cook with students to help with vocabulary, life skills, and socialization with other students.  It is going to be a great year.  I am very excited about the year and our group of students!  I know Nagel can be a scary transition but I have done this for many years now and I feel students feel much success in the classroom and working with this wonderful group of teachers with proper modifications, accommodations and the right direction.  I love what I do and I love when students feel success.  Many times I have had students look at me after I have explained something a different way and said “now I get it!” There is nothing more rewarding to me than those words and the smile that comes with it.   That is how I teach and why my students are very important to me.  I have high expectations for all and I do push them to learn and to problem solve at their ability level.  If you have any questions or concerns of any kind please don’t hesitate to talk to me or email.
