Hi, I am Mrs. Johnston and I am very pleased to have you as a member in my class and on Team Galileo this year.  I look forward to being your Social Studies teacher and getting to know you.  I have been teaching Middle School for 8 years and am ecstatic to begin my 5th year at Nagel with all of you.  I look forward to an exciting and educational look through WORLD HISTORY:)  I graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and earned a Master of Art degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.  I was born and raised in Wapakoneta, Ohio (hometown of Neil Armstrong) and have also lived in Colorado, Illinois and Wisconsin.  I currently reside in Batavia with my husband, Matthew and newborn son, Truman.  We enjoy the outdoors and spend our time camping, golfing, skiing and traveling to visit family and friends across the US (our goal is to visit all 50 states by 2015; 12 more exciting places to tour).  Mazey and Meggie (our pug and boxer) go everywhere we do; with their help, our dream of opening a doggy daycare may one day be possibe.

We are going to share in a phenomenal educational experience this year.  We will focus on the ancient world from 1000 BC to 1750.  By the end of the course you will be able to: describe the impacts of early civilization in Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, Rome and West Africa after 1000 BC; understand, compare, contrast and analyze the economic, geographic, political and social facets of ancient civilizations; as well as, comprehend the contributions these societies have on the world today.  We are also going to become better learners with improved organizational and study skills.  Since learning from one's peers is a very powerful tool from which students learn best, we will work cooperatively in groups whenever possible.

My compassion for facilitating your learning is immeasurable.  I am fully devoted to making a difference in your lives by instructing, role-modeling and understanding your unique needs, wants and desires to aid you in becoming successful individuals.  I establish high expectations; while continuously seek new ways to improve instruction, link learning with fun and nurture responsible student performance.  Let us SOAR!
