Mini-Course Title: (Subject to change per student creativity)
NTV: Nagel Television/ Nighthawk News
Course Description: Students will develop a knowledge of a variety of technology including digital video cameras, Flip cameras, microphones, Adobe Premiere 7 Video software, and Animationfactory digital video backgrounds software, which they will be able to use to create a video broadcast news and announcements program to be aired and viewed by the entire student body. Students will also be enabled to enter and compete in creative contests associated with the use of this technology when they are available.
Goals and Objectives: Students will be able to:
Language Arts:
1. Oral and Visual Communication:
- Deliver informational presentations(e.g., expository, research) that:
a. demonstrate an understanding of the topic and present the events
or ideas in a logical sequence
b. include an effective introduction and conclusion and use a
consistent organizational structure
c. use appropriate visual materials (e.g., diagrams, charts,
illustrations) and available technology
- Deliver formal and informal descriptive presentations that convey relevant information and descriptive details.
- Adjust volume, phrasing, enunciation, voice modulation, and inflection to stress important ideas and impact audience response
2. Writing Process:
- Generate writing ideas through discussions with other and from printed material, and keep a list of writing ideas.
- Re-read and analyze clarity of writing and consistency of point of view.
3. Research:
- Compose open-ended questions for research, assigned or personal interest, and modify questions as necessary during inquiry and investigation.
- Use a variety of communication techniques, including oral, visual, written or multimedia reports, to present information that supports a clear position about the topic or research question and to maintain an appropriate balance between researched information and original ideas.
Technology:
1. Productivity Tools:
- Create a video production related to a class activity.
2. Technology for Productivity Applications:
- Demonstrate an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.
- Use productivity tools to produce creative works.
3. Intellectual property:
- Demonstrate legal and ethical practices when completing projects/schoolwork.
- Adhere to copyright restrictions
- Discuss software piracy, its impact on the technology industry, and possible repercussions to individuals and/or the school district.
4. Technology and Communication Applications:
- Communicate information technologically and incorporate principles of design into the creation of messages and communication products.
- Develop, publish and present information in a format that is appropriate for content and audience.
Activities:
Students will participate in visual media teams that will:
- Collaborate to develop topics and important information to present to the student body
- Work in collaborative groups to compose and edit questions for interviews and to develop stories
- Interview peers, faculty and community members
- Digitally record interviews using digital cameras and digital video cameras, Flip cams and microphones
- Design and edit video images using Adobe Premiere 7 Video software
- Design and edit sound
- Use software to create and edit creative images
Culminating Activity/Assessment:
Students will air their work for the entire faculty and student body. Grades will be based upon meeting weekly deadlines for their assigned video segments.
