The Pigman Take Home Essay Test

Choose 2 of the following essay choices to complete. Each question is worth a total of 50 points for an overall score of 100. Answers should be typed or neatly written in blue or black ink. Late papers will receive one letter grade off per day late. You may use your book as a resource or for quotes to support your answers. DO NOT WORK TOGETHER. Be sure you've done your OWN work. Answers should be 3 paragraphs in length. I will not grade any paragraphs you might write beyond the first three, so be sure to focus your answer and stay within the limits. Your test is due MONDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2010.

 

1. What factors contribute to the death of Mr. Pignati? Be sure you have two-three factors. Be sure to include several quotes from the text to support your answers. YOU MUST HAVE PAGE NUMBERS FOR EACH QUOTE YOU USE.

2. Do Lorraine and John have a good friendship or would they be better off if they were not friends? How do they help one another? In what ways do they cause harm to one another? Choose a side and use be sure to include several details from the text to support your answers. YOU MUST HAVE PAGE NUMBERS FOR EACH QUOTE YOU USE.

3. How have Mrs. Jensen's life and job shaped her personality? Do you think she is a victim of her life or should she be responsible for the way she treats Lorraine? You MUST choose a side. Be sure to include several quotes from the text to support your answers. BE SURE TO INCLUDE PAGE NUMBERS FOR EACH QUOTE YOU USE.

4. What does John mean when he says that he and Lorraine have "trespassed" as did the Pigman? What "dies" in John and Lorraine as a result of this trespassing? Be sure to support and explain your answer with quotes from the text. DON'T FORGET YOUR PAGE NUMBERS.

 

Some Reminders:

1. You are not allowed to use personal pronouns in any of your essays. All of the following are off limits: I, me, my, you, us,
we, our, etc.

2. You are not permitted to talk about your essay IN your essay. In other words, you shouldn't have things like:

~In the essay I'm going to tell you...

~In the following paragraphs....

~In the following quote...

3. You should use transitions at the start of EVERY paragraph, except your introduction.

4. Be sure to use the title of the book and the author in the introduction of each essay question.

5. Do you have to type? No, but you will lose points for misspelled words and problems that your computer will easily fix for you. If you write out your answers be sure they are neat and in blue
or black ink only. ESSAYS WRITTEN IN PENCIL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!
