"What does Magister Brickler expect of me?"
Magister Brickler’s Expectations -- beyond the Classroom Discipline Policy
  • I expect that you, having chosen this language, will make a positive effort to try to enjoy it, and will find your favorite things about Latin for yourself.
  • I expect that you will spend 20-30 minutes a night on Latin, from Sunday to Thursday, not only doing the assigned homework but memorizing vocabulary and forms, working a little bit every night.
  • I expect you to seek help quickly if you are confused or are starting to fall slightly behind.

Inside the classroom, I expect you to...
  • Put the problems of the day away before you come in the door.
  • Respect other people in the class -- you will be working together with them for a long time to come.
  • Respect my knowledge and my teaching. When I am giving instruction, I expect you to not be so rude as to carry on private conversations. I also expect you to not interrupt me when I am speaking. If you have questions, the procedure is obvious, and I am sure you have used it since the first grade. Wait until I am finished and then raise your hand.
  • Take care of your own area, keep it clean and dispose of your own trash.
  • Be quiet and pay attention during news and announcements.
  • In addition, please observe the following rules for behavior during translation. Since students are responsible on tests for knowing the material translated by other students, and for helping when the teacher asks (as part of their participation grade), attentiveness, quiet and concentration are required of all students at all times during translations.
  • Please show respect and courtesy at all times towards the student who is translating. Everyone finds it hard enough to translate without having to worry about negative comments from other students.
