P.E. Team Policies

Physical Education Expectations and Guidelines

Dear Parents and students,
            It is our belief that students can and should behave appropriately while in our class area.  We will not tolerate students who prevent us from teaching, or prevents him/her or other students from learning.

Expectations and Guideline Rules:
The student will:
            1. Follow the Nagel Middle School student code of conduct.
            2. Be in assigned seat and in the gym on time. (4 minutes to dress and be in class on time)
            3. Participate in PE class to the best of their ability with 100% effort 100% of the time.
            4. Use equipment safely and only when instructed to do so by the classroom teacher.
            5. Dress in required labeled uniform on a daily basis.
            6. Students not dressing for participation are to report directly to the gym and their Physical Education teacher. Students DO NOT go to the locker room.
                Students must have their plan book with them and present it to the teacher to receive a stamp that marks in the plan book: Did Not Dress For PE.

Consequences:
            A. Behavior:
                        1. Verbal warning.
                        2. Conference with the teacher/possible loss of points.
                        3. Parent contact / student contract violation sheet to be signed by parent and student /and returned the following PE class / Loss of points (As stated below) / Detention.
                        4. Referral to administration.
                        5. If a student is seriously endangering, or extremely disruptive, the student will be sent to the principal’s office immediately.
                       
            B. Tardy: Tardy to class results in loss of 2 points. Three tardies to class will result in a school detention.

            C. Failure to dress:
                 First time: Lose 10 points -     Replacement activity, (i.e. walk the track).
                Second time: Lose 20 points - Replacement activity.
                Third time: Lose 40 points -   Student contract violation notice /
                                                               Parent contact/Replacement activity.
                Fourth time: Lose 60 points - Principal referral to principal / Detention
                Fifth time:    Lose 80 points - Automatic Failure of class for the quarter.
Appropriate dress for Physical Education Class:
           

  1. Nagel P.E. shorts and shirt. Name must be on the front of the shirt in large print (First and last name, or first initial and last name if the whole name Doesn’t fit. )
    Note: Defacing your P.E. shirt will require a new replacement shirt.             2. Gym shoes are required for participation points. No slip on, heelless, and gym shoes need to be supportive and must tie or Velcro.
                3. Nagel Sweatshirts and sweat pants are permitted when the class goes outside. The Nagel P.E. uniform must be worn under the sweat clothing.
                4. The P.E. shirt must not be put on over any other kind of shirts (including t-shirts etc.).

Participation:
                        Students who have followed the classroom rules and policies will receive the maximum of 10 daily points toward their final grade. Students will be required to keep a P.E. portfolio also to be    included as part of their final grade.

Absence or Non-Participation:
                        A parent note is needed for a daily excuse from participation. If you will not be able to     participate for longer than 3 consecutive days, you will need a written medical doctor’s excuse. Extended medical excuses will be dealt with on an individual basis and may include reassignment to a different class or a written assignment.
                        Students will need to male up any day that you are excused from P.E. class.    Including the following:  Field trips, Chorus/band rehearsals/practice, or any other reason.
            Required Make up is 30 minutes of physical activity. (I.e. walking, biking, bowling, sports practice, etc.) will be required to regain your daily points.
A note, signed by a parent, describing the activity and the amount of time spent doing the activity is required.

Locker room:
                        Nothing is to be left in the locker room overnight. Bring a lock to secure your belongings during P.E. class. We are not responsible for items unsecured in the locker room. Athletic team locker rooms will be locked, no access to students during P.E. class time.
